Todays ride through 10 miles of the winding singletrack of the Laurel Ridge Preserve in East Setauket felt like a long-awaited homecoming. After a couple of weeks on the sidelines nursing a shoulder injury, grinding my reset to a halt, rolling into the trailhead with my two friends beside me brought back a mix of nerves, excitement, and relief. I took the fatty, Trek Farley 7. The familiar crunch of leaves under our tires and the smell of early-winter woods instantly reminded me why I missed this place so much.
Mountain Biking at Laurel Ridge Preserve never disappoints. We eased into the first stretch, the narrow ribbons of trail threading between laurel thickets and small trees. My shoulders felt tight at first, but each smooth corner and gentle rise helped rebuild confidence. Before long, the rhythm returned—the quiet flow of pedaling, shifting, breathing, and letting the bike dance beneath me.
Laurel Ridge delivered all its usual contrasts: playful twists, short punchy climbs, fast rolling descents and tunnels of wild laurels. Riding with friends made it even better—the steady encouragement, the shared laughs, and the unspoken agreement to take it at a pace that matched my comeback.
By the time we rolled back to the trailhead, my shoulder felt tired and the joy of being back on the bike had settled in. It wasn’t just a ride—it was the reset I needed.’s
